Invitation to an open forum with the international ABS co-Chairs
An electronic invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is attached, inviting you to an open forum on Tuesday 8 September 2009 with the co-Chairs of the international Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) negotiations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). ABS is another phrase for ‘bioprospecting’, or accessing biological resources for the purposes of research, innovation and knowledge building, and then the sharing of resulting benefits.
Negotiations for an international ABS regime are ongoing, with a view to a completed legally binding regime by 2010. The 8 September open forum provides you with an opportunity to discuss the ABS negotiations with the co-Chairs.
