We’ve just got word that the Te reo Maori app for iPhones is now available via iTunes. It costs only $1.29 to purchase. Launch iTunes and search for Maori in the Apps Store.
It utilises a drill-based approach to language learning. You simply enter the word and repeat it until you know it. There are two modes, review and quiz and you are able to switch modes at any time.
The app includes greetings, colours, numbers, parts of the body, fruit, veggies, food, transport, days of the week, months, seasons, questions, commands, continents, countries, names, deities and people.
The iPhone application was launched nationally by Auckland University of Technology and Te Upukare National Maori Language Institute to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori 2009 but only just became available now.
The developers responsible for creating the app also created the online Maori dictionary (www.maoridictionary.co.nz) at the end of 2007 and it has been continues to generate large volumes of traffic.
We’re just downloading the app now and will be reviewing it over the coming days.
