Tu Ake gears now available
1 min read
A long time back (April 2009) we featured a story on Tu Ake which announced their upcoming Maori inspired kicks and sunglasses, well TangataWhenua.com is ecstatic to announce that the gears are now in Aotearoa!!!
Now just a rundown: Tu Ake fuse elements, ideas & concepts which are inspired by traditional Maori art-forms with the fashion trends of today to capture the uniqueness of Aotearoa urban culture.
The company seeks to utilise fashion trends of today as a medium for promoting Maori culture (now that is the Maori edge we’re talking about!)
The kaupapa is about keeping rangatahi engaged in their culture by making it relevant to them, hmmm, we “likes” that!
Founder, creator, designer at Tu Ake, Wiremu Barriball‘s belief is that by incorporating and connecting the distinctive designs of Te Ao Maori with current trends there will be a greater chance of ensuring that our culture, our heritage and our stories will be held long into the future.
Check out their website (and get these gears while their hot, they won’t last long, and you’ll soon have to be waiting for the next delivery date!)
