GRASSROOTS CLUB RUGBY LEAGUE RETURNS TO MAORI TELEVISION

Auckland Rugby Leagues prestigious premiere grade inter-club championship kicks off its comprehensive coverage on New Zealands national indigenous broadcaster, Maori Television, this weekend (June 26-27)

For the second year in a row, the Appliance Shed Fox Memorial Shield will be televised on two channels Maori Television and Te Reo with a revised schedule ensuring the same weekend broadcast of two games. The 10-week coverage will include seven weeks of the competitions second round and three weeks of the final series, culminating in the grand final on Saturday August 28.

FOX MEMORIAL SHIELD will screen on Maori Television every Saturday and Sunday at 2.00 PM from June 26. Sports presenter Te Arahi Maipi (Waikato) will front the coverage and will be joined on the sidelines by league star Wairangi Koopu (Te Whanau-a-Apanui) while Dale Husband (Ngati Maru, Tainui) and former Kiwi Tony Kemp (Taranaki) will provide game commentary.

The same two weekend games will also screen on the 100 per cent Maori language channel, Te Reo, on Saturday at 8.00 PM and Sunday at 9.00 PM from June 26. RIIKI ARL 2010 will be commentated by veteran sports broadcaster Hemana Waaka (Ngai Tuhoe) who will be joined by Peeni Henare (Ngati Hine).

The chairman of the Board of Directors of Auckland Rugby League, Cameron McGregor, says the Auckland club competition had never before had such comprehensive television coverage when the twice-weekly broadcasts kicked off in 2009. To have our games once again on Maori Television and Te Reo is a huge boost for local league. The Board of Directors and its clubs sincerely thank Maori Television for its continued support.

FOX MEMORIAL SHIELD will screen on Maori Television every Saturday and Sunday at 2.00 PM from June 26 while RIIKI ARL 2010 will screen on Te Reo on Saturday at 8.00 PM and Sunday at 9.00 PM from June 26. Maori Television is free-to-air on UHF, Freeview channel 5 and using a satellite dish and receiver, and is also available on SKY Digital channel 19, SKY UHF channel 6 or channel 33 on Saturn TV. Te Reo is available free-to-air on Freeview channel 24 and also on SKY Digital 59.
