Free rongoa wananga: Pharmac

PHARMAC is offering a FREE two-day wananga on medicines including rongoa for Maori health professionals working with Maori whanau.

This wananga is for you if you want to:

• learn more about medicine
• improve your knowledge regarding the safe and effective use of medicines
• develop techniques to encourage whanau to self-manage medicines as part of maintaining overall health and/ or
• improve your understanding of Rongoa Maori.

Facilitators

Facilitators include leading health professionals Dr Peter Jansen, Dr Rawiri Jansen, Maria Barnes (Kairongoa) and Leanne Te Karu (Maori Pharmacist).

Eligibility

Preference is given to Registered Maori Nurses working in a primary care role or Maori Community Health Workers who are committed to positive health outcomes for whanau. Please contact us if you wish to discuss your eligibility.

Topics covered include:

• Jargon busting medical terms
• Maori Health and Maori Priorities
• Rongoa Maori
• Health conditions that impact of Maori
• The Role of Pharmaceuticals in New Zealand Health
• Access to subsidised medicines
• The 5 R’s – Practical application
• Effective communication with Maori.

Kai, accommodation (Noho Marae) and course materials are all included.
