Interested in applying to be a member of the Young People’s Reference Group?

Are you or do you know of young people who are interested in speaking about issues that impact on children and young people? Want a chance to influence decision-makers? Aged between 12-15 years? Are good at working in a team? Currently connected to school groups, community groups, church groups, their local hapu and iwi or sports club? Like to work hard and are looking for a challenge?

The Childrens Commissioner needs to receive applications from young people under the age of 16, as this allows members to serve a full two-year term with the opportunity to stay on until they are 18 years of age.

The Childrens Commissioner covers all costs for members of the Young Peoples Reference Group.

DEADLINE: Applications will now close on Sunday 31 October 2010.

The Children’s Commissioner is grateful to all young people who apply to join the Young People’s Reference Group.

The deadline has been extended as many of the applications received to date are from young people who unfortunately fall out of the age bracket of the group. The Childrens Commissioner needs to receive applications from young people under the age of 16, as this allows members to serve a full two-year term with the opportunity to stay until they are 18 years of age.

If you know of young people that may be interested in this role, please download a promotional flyer. The Children’s Commissioner would appreciate promotion of this application process to as many young people from throughout New Zealand/Aotearoa as possible.

This application forms includes references forms that you need to get from a person in your community who can describe your networks etc and someone who can give you a character reference. It also includes a form for your parents, care givers, or guardians to sign.

Applications can be made by completing an application form and posting or faxing it into us. We need to have hard copies of your references and the parent/guardian permission form.

We need these forms in hard copy.
