Digitised photos of Rua Kenana to be gifted to Museum
1 min read
A heads-up for East Coasters that there will be Turnbull Library staff in Gisborne tomorrow evening giving a community talk. The speakers will be John Sullivan (ATL Curator Photographs) and Ronald Milne (Associate Chief Librarian, Research Collections). The talk is one of a series we are currently conducting to celebrate Turnbull’s 90th anniversary.
Of particular interest in this presentation is a gift received earlier this year of an album of photographs taken and compiled by Rev John Mann while serving in Presbyterian Maori Mission among Tuhoe, 1928-1929. The album includes photographs of Maungapohatu, Rua Kenana, and Ringatu gatherings. John will be showing some digitised images from this album.
Other material that will be featured are images from a glass plate negatives collection depicting the wool industry in the region.
