The call for papers and registrations for He Rau Tumu Korero 2011, the Maori Historians’ Symposium are now open until Monday 2 May. A panui advertising the call is attached here, to pin up and to pass on.

This year, He Rau Tumu Korero invites participants to consider the theme ‘Locating the Past: where is Maori history?’ Proposals of not more than 300 words can be emailed to a.harris@auckland.ac.nz. See the attachment for more details or find them online at: www.tepouherekorero.org.nz.

Besides calling for papers, you are also invited to pass on registrations of interest for ten-minute presentations of historical research projects that fit the theme. It may be helpful to know that we will be asking registrants to keep to a set format which will include: the title of your research project, one image that can be discussed in relation to the research, one quote from a primary source that illustrates it, and a comment on where and how the research might be located.

Register your interest with Hirini Kaa (h.kaa@whataamo.co.nz) and he will offer further advice and guidance on the presentations.

The symposium will be held at the University of Auckland on Thursday 9 June 2011, and Te Pouhere K?rero members are reminded that we will have a business meeting on the morning of Friday 10 June.

Lastly, we probably already know that the call for papers for this year’s NZHA conference is open. As usual we’re happy to talk about co-ordinating panels for anyone interested in joining the fun. See conference details online at: http://www.nzha.org.nz/conferences.html.
