Ngati Pikiao Inter-hapu/marae Kapa Haka Competition

Nga mihi tino nui ki a koutou katoa. This panui is to advise that Ngati Pikiao will be holding an inter-hapu/marae kapa haka competition in late June / early July 2011.

Following a hui at Tapuaeharuru on 30 March, a working party was set up to co-ordinate/organize and facilitate the Competition.

The working party met on 5 April and from that hui, the following information is now being disbursed to Ngati Pikiao, in order that tutors/participants/whanau/hapu can begin organizing their respective roopu.

Regular updates will be sent out to the Iwi from the working party.

COMPETITION RULES

1. Performance Participation

  • Participation is open to nga uri o Ngati Pikiao Iwi

2. Performance Composition

  • Waiata tira Choral (optional)
  • Whakaeke EntryMoteatea E Muri Ahi (kupu attached)
  • Waiata a ringa
  • Poi
  • Haka To be advised by Te Ariki Morehu (The working party will co-ordinate a time and date for tutors to meet with Te Ariki where he will whakamarama the haka)
  • Whakawatea Exit

Note: The same moteatea and haka will be performed by each hapu/marae.
The remaining items will be at the discretion of the tutor.

3. Performance/Stage Time

  • 30 minutes with choral
  • 25 minutes without choral

4. Hapu/marae Numbers

  • Minimum of 25 performers with no limit on maximum

5. Age Limit

  • 14 years and older

6. Performers Attire/dress/uniform

  • Whether it is traditional or contemporary, each roopu is required to wear the same uniform.

7. Judging

  • Each roopu is asked to nominate two judges from their respective hapu/marae

8. Competition Date & Venue

  • The competition date is yet to be confirmed, but it is likely that it will be held in late June or early July.
  • The venue is yet to be confirmed

  1. RULES R WRITTEN BUT YET NOT ALL ARE APPLIED? CONFUSED
    7 MARAE’S = 12 JUDGES (ALL READY 2 MANY)
    ATTIRE = DIFFERENT COLOURED BLANKETS (MAYBE NEXT YEAR DIFFERENT COLOUR
    – BODESSES,PIUPIUS,HAIR ETC)
    AGE = ALLOW THE ODD 3 0R 4 MAYBE UNDER 14
