Manaakitanga quiz during Maori Language Week 2011

2 min read

Fancy yourself as a quiz extraordinaire? Well Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori is seeking teams from the Wellington region to compete in the Manaakitanga quiz night at Te Papa Tongarewa as part of Maori Language Week 2011 celebrations.

Teams should be made up of four people, two male and two female. Each team should have at least one Maori language speaker as the entire quiz will be conducted in te reo Maori.

All teams must have a name, and must also create a team chant. In addition to saying something about who you are, all team chants should relate to Manaakitanga (i.e. the theme for Maori Language Week) and te reo Maori and also be in te reo Maori.

The quiz will be held on the evening of Wednesday 6 July 2011, starting with a stand up buffet at 5:30pm. The quiz will then commence at 6:30pm with all evening activities concluding at 9pm.

Maori Television and TVNZ presenter Matai Smith will be the quizmaster for the evening and he will be awarding spot prizes that acknowledge the following:

  • Best team name;
  • Best team chant;
  • Most reo spoken;
  • Best Zumba dance.

In addition, Maori Language Week merchandise (including items not publicly available) will be awarded to the first, second and third placed teams.

There is provision for 25 teams only, and all teams need to register before the quiz. First in (with completed registration forms) first served. We anticipate lots of interest so get in quickly.

Registration is free and you must provide names of all the members in your team. Registrations must be received no later than close of business Monday 4 July 2011. Please see a programme, list of rules and registration form attached.
