Maori Flag flies from the Auckland Harbour Bridge

1 min read

Kia ora whanau – we just received word about some of our staunch whanau who managed to fly the Tino Rangatiratanga flag from the Auckland Harbour bridge this morning!!

Here is the korero from Stuff:

“Seven protesters who scaled the Auckland Harbour Bridge this morning have been arrested and charged after being brought down by police”.

Police say a group of five men and two women aged between 18 and 30 got out of a car which had stopped on the bridge at about 8.30am.

They smashed a lock on a gate to gain access to the top of the bridge where witnesses say they unfurled a Maori sovereignty flag and waved a placard.

They were said to be protesting against deep sea oil drilling off the East Coast but their protest was hampered by fog, and the protesters’ sign was too small to be read.

The group were brought down by police within 20 minutes, and have been charged with wilful damage and unlawfully being on enclosed premises.

We will try and post more information as it comes to hand. Kia kaha tatou!
