Ngati Whakaue to hold pohiri for Pukaki at Tamatekapua

Saturday August 13 2011 will see Ngati Whakaue, Te Arawa waka gathered at Tamatekapua to see our tupuna Pukaki welcomed home onto our paramount marae.

At 7:30am Pukaki will arrive back in Ohinemutu to be carried on byNgati Whakaueand welcomed by his legions of descendents.

He will rest at Tama for a while and then be carried to his new home at the Rotorua Museum.

While he is at Tama his whanau from around the waka will be asked to entertain him and regale him with song and dance.

At 10am he will then be carried via the Lakefront to the Museum.

He pohiri tenei na te Poari Kaitiaki o Pukaki kia huihui mai tatau ki Te Papaiouru Marae Ohinemutu a te 13 o nga ra o Akuhata 2011ki te whakatau i to tatau tupuna a Pukaki ki runga ki to na marae i mua i tona taunga whakamutunga ki Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa.

The Chairman and members of the Pukaki Trust invite you to attend the welcoming ceremony for our tupuna Pukaki at Te Papaiouru Marae, Ohinemutu on Saturday 13th August 2011 before its final resting place at Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa – Rotorua Museum of Art and History

Programme:

  • 7.30 am Pohiri at Te Papaiouru Marae, Ohinemutu
  • 8.30 am Parakuihi, Whakaturia
  • 10.30 am Pukaki to leave Te Papaiouru Marae for the Rotorua Museum of Art and History
  • 11.00 am Arrival of Pukaki at the Rotorua Museum and whakatau by Te Pukenga Koeke o te Whare Taonga
  • 11.30 am Light Refreshments
