Merepeka Raukawa-Tait wins election

By-election results for the one position left vacant by former councillor Geoff Kennyare still only preliminary however, Mrs Raukawa-Tait’s winning margin is too large for her to lose while the remaining 164 late votes are counted.

Mrs Raukawa-Tait received 4986 votes, while in second place was Rotorua businessman Brett Marvelly who received 3850 votes. In third was Rotorua accountant Victor Storey with 2428 votes.

Her winning margin was 1136 .

Only 15,518 people out of 45,118 eligible Rotorua voters had their say in the by-election, a turnout of just 34.38 per cent.
