A new digital kainga was established today with the website launch of www.whakaue.org, an online portal that seeks to inform, involve, inspire and to keep Ngati Whakaue connected at home, around the rohe and around the World.

We wanted to create a digital portal for all things related to our iwi of Ngati Whakaue said Te Komiti Nui o Ngati Whakaue (TKNoNW) Chairperson, Anaru Te Amo. It was important that we could update information, share & send panui, post pictures from wananga, recall stories of our many marae and build a digital repository of our living culture.

The whakaue.org website uses what is called Web 2.0 technology,an online system that is known for promoting and enhancing community participation and feedback, and also allows one-click shares to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Our website will be utilisied to keep the public informed as to where Te Komiti Nui is in terms of the Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Process said Mr Te Amo. We urge all descendants of Ngati Whakaue to click in and look around the site. What we want is feedback to build and add the tools you require some which will be accessible to the public, whilst more specific information pertaining to whakapapa, whenua matters will be made available in a Members Only section.

Visitors who affiliate to Ngati Whakaue, can go online and register with the Ngati Whakaue tribal database. Once membership is confirmed registered users will have access to an exclusive Ngati Whakaue Members Only area, which will have historical photos, video and important documents all relevant to Ngati Whakaue.
