Looks like TangataWhenua.com started a trend, after our ever popular Maori of the Year 2010 Marae Investigates has just recently announced their newly established award, Nga To a Whakaihuwaka Maori of the Year which seeks to celebrate people who have increased the mana of Maori in 2011?
TVNZs Marae Investigates will this live one hour special on Sunday 5th Fwb on the eve of Waitangi Day 2012.
Individuals and organisations can nominate a person or people they believe are deserving of recognition.
A panel of judges will select the award winners.
The only criteria – nominees must have excelled for themselves and/or for their whanau, hapu & iwi by enhancing themanaof Maori.
The following categories have been set up to assist the process but are not compulsory in the entry;
- Reo/Tikanga
- Community Service
- Treaty Issues
- Sport
- Business
- Arts
- Science/Technology/Innovation
- Health
- Education
