There is now a Western Heights Neighbourhood Policing (NPT) team set up specifically in Western Heights area (for the next two to five years), seeking to address the underlying drivers of crime in the area. A key focus area is Youth. The Rotorua District Council is near completion of the construction of a Youth Space on Park Road Reserve in Western Heights and is setting up youth sport and recreation programmes on this site. After a meeting between RDC and the Police it became very apparent that there are actually a number of organisations offering services in the Western Heights area and it’s timely to get these services together to map out who’s doing what, how to access services etc.
Whanau are welcomed to attend a Western Heights Neighbourhood Community Mapping Exercise at the Rotorua District Council on January 25th from 9am-11am in the Council Chambers. The purpose of this meeting is to link the services which are available to young people and their families/whanau in the Western Heights area. Normally we would do this at a school in the community but as it’s the holidays we’ll be hosting the meeting here at RDC. This is also a good opportunity to meet each other face to face and see how we can work together more effectively and how we can refer clients etc. The Rotorua Police and the Rotorua District Council are launching two new community /youth initiatives in Western Heights and would like to take the opportunity to discuss these with you.
It is also requested that each organisation email Jill, a brief summary of your services available in Western Heights. This information will be available to the group to take away as a reference.
Please RSVP your attendance to Jill (contact details below) via email by Jan 23rd along with a brief email summary of your services available in Western Heights.
