The story of the descendants of Hinetewai Atihana Johns B.A, Dip Ed. of Ngati Kahu and proud descendant of Hinetewai is proud to publish Nga Tapuwae o Hinetewai after years of writing and research.

The book about tupuna, hapu and whanau of the far north from pre-european times to now, has been in the works since 2005.

I think its important for my mokopuna and uri to know who they are, thats how the book came about, said the author.

Although directly concerning descendants of Ngati Kahu (a tribe on the Karikari peninsula), the analytical style of the book would appeal to academics, visionaries, and all interested in Maori culture in microcosm.

This story from the far north of mana whenua, tikanga, colonisation, and changes caused by new laws also seeks to paint a picture of a sustainable future for all descendants of Hinetewai.

The trials and tribulations our people have been through and overcome is something to be admired. T

he book is available for purchase from Pakira Publishing Ltd. Nga Tapuwae o Hinetewai will be launched at Waiari (Whatuwhiwhi) at 10am on Saturday, 18th of February 2012.
