Exhibition of Prisoner artwork including traditional and contemporary indigenous artworks
Following the successful award-winning shows in 2010/11 and in collaboration with the Department of Corrections, Mairangi Arts Centre advises that this third annual exhibition will open on April 1 until April 21, 2012.
We have developed this increasingly popular and diverse exhibition through continued engagement with artists from Auckland and Ngawha Prisons through the Prison Arts Programme.
The show allows a regional community that would not normally engage with artworks from this source the oppportunity to appreciate many different forms of artwork.
the show wnures that the recognised prison arts programmes are retained and enhanced.
Artists benefit through the abilities to organise exhibitions, understand financial processes, engage with art at a progressive level and enhance their own self esteem.
Artists’ families benefit through engagement with the show.
Charities benefit through donations of sales of artworkl.
