Aotearoa NZ Maori Business Leaders Awards

The University of Auckland Business School is inviting whanau who wish to honour and celebrate the achievements of Mori business leaders and students.

The annual Mori Business Leaders and Alumni Awards Dinner will be held on Friday 27 April at 6pm in the Alumni Marquee on the grounds of Old Government House.

In presenting the Outstanding Mori Business Leaders Award, we will honour an individual for their significant contribution to business enterprise and the economy, while other awards will recognise outstanding individuals and groups. Previous winners of the Outstanding Mori Business Leaders Award include Sir Howard Morrison, Peter O’Loughlin, Rob McLeod, Brett Shepherd, Peter Cooper, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir Ralph Norris.

Outstanding Mori Business Leaders Award winner

The winner of this most prestigious award this year is Chris Mace. Chris is an Auckland based businessman, company director and investor with experience in the New Zealand and Australian business environment.

Chris is Chairman of the Crown Research Institute, NIWA, and a director of a number of private companies. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute, the Antarctic Heritage Trust and was a founding Trustee of the Sir Peter Blake Trust. He is also past Chairman of the Crown Research Institute ESR and Antarctica New Zealand.

Chris was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2005 for services to Antarctica and the community.

  • Mihi and karakia: Associate Professor Manuka Henare, Associate Dean Mori and Pacific Development and Director of the Mira Szszy Research Centre
  • Welcome address: Professor Greg Whittred, Dean Business School
  • Scholarship: Bank of New Zealand – Kaitautoko Matua Scholarship announcement
  • Awards presentation: Announcement of the Toi Ururoa Kelly Scholarships, Dame Mira Szszy Mori Business Leaders Alumni Awards and The University of Auckland Business School Outstanding Mori Business Leader Award for 2011.
