“Blatant bloody racism is how MANA leader Hone Harawira described Nationals call for a review into the cost effectiveness of Maori health providers.

Government spends $7 million over several years on an assessment tool for adult literacy but only $150,000 on an evaluation tool for Maori health providers and they want it yesterday.

And how come government isnt doing a review into the cost effectiveness of non-Maori health providers as well?

I know of heaps of Maori who go to the doctor in real pain and get sent home with an aspirin when they should be getting referred to hospital and yet nothing happens to the doctors said Harawira. And every whanau knows of somebody who went to hospital for something minor and died on the operating table and yet nothing happens to the District Health Boards.

Harawira said that the real scandal was in the inability of mainstream health to reduce the scandalous Maori health statistics.

Given the billions of dollars spent on non-Maori health providers and the continuing massive inequality in Maori health, the Minister should be calling for a review into why DHBs refuse to report on targets to reduce Maori health disparities as they are required to do by law.

But the Minister wants a review into the cost effectiveness of Maori health providers?

Harawira said that Maori health providers werent opposed to a review but they were worried about the effect the review would have on their ability to turn around the appalling Maori health statistics particularly when the review was only aimed at them.

You measure Maori providers against non-Maori providers and youll see a difference alright said Harawira.

Maori providers get less than non-Maori providers.

And Maori health improves when Maori go to Maori health providers too, because Maori feel comfortable talking to people who understand their situation and care for them, and thats what Maori health providers do really, really well engage with Maori and persuade them to change their lifestyles to improve their health.

This review is just another example of the institutional racism being used by the National Maori Party government to crush Maori endeavour said Harawira. And to nobodys great surprise, the Maori Party has done a huff and a puff about it and then gone back to sleep.

If Maori health providers want to take a strong collective stand on this, then MANA will back them. United we stand, divided

  1. Have we forgotten the way our Ancestors did things?…Karakia, Faith & Patience for the answers recieved moved mountains in their day…where is that same Faith, Karakia & patience from Maori today…are we united,no matter where you are or where you live? Or what religious denomination you are…for Maori concerns, & situations today, do you think God has forgotten us? Has He deserted us?…NO He hasn’t…have we forgotten to call apon GOD for his COUNCIL & GUIDENCE & ANSWERS as our Tupuna/Ancestors once did? GOD knows what is right & Best in this situation & He will lead those who are true & faithful & do the work to show how they labour hard that God may answer them…to receive his council & hear the answer to help solve these many problems…God is the same as in the beginning &He is the same even NOW! & He will be for all Eternity…If we all prayed with the same Question in our hearts with faith & sincerity with nothing wavering & without doubt…would not we as a people combined in this united quest in as many as will ask to God for His council & guidance get an answer from Him?!….HE will answer YOU!…He needs us to ASK the QUESTION & then to LISTEN to receive that answer he gives & how to go about doing that exact thing we have asked about!…we need to do the labour to find it & when we recieve it.

  2. Please watch the video / doco at this link. It’s shocking, not for the faint-hearted but for the rest, it will help explain why the world is in the state its in and what we can do about it. our govts dont have the answer because they dance to the tune of global domination by corporations and banks. the rot is already there. the meek will inherit the earth, when enough of us wake up to whats really go on. please share the video with everyone.

  3. Again, pakeha government uses the only tool that they have…. domination by a dominating race that has the power to do whatever they like wherever they choose, whenever they decide that changes ought be made…They make the messes and the those less privileged pay the ultimate price of their bad decisions…They keep us in a place of submissiveness..a comfortable place where they can manipulate and control what our future should be and when we get too close, guess what the goal post is moved again….When maori achievements are measured against pakeha achievements we wil always fall short, not because we failed, but because they dont want maori in key positions that they are enjoying right now….we just have to keep chipping away and in its season, what goes round will come round….our season is coming and this government have no idea how it will come, neither do we for that matter…an element of surprise…eh…!!

  5. health providors are the ambulance at the bottom of the clif. the problem with health starts with food and lifestyle choices.from the day we are born..diabetes ,obesity,,,white refined foods?sugar, flour, alcohol, tobbaco,”p”,fast cars ,fast food, etc

  6. Gee Hone thank you for standing up for Maori against a damned hegemonic white system that’s sapping the life and soul out of our people. We’re not stupid, we see the amount of money that is channeled into white institutions i.e health providers, education institutes, early childhood as opposed to Maori. What annoys me the most is parties like the Maori and Maori in influential places who sit back and allow this dictatorial government to continue to strip our mana and oppress us. The health and social economy of Maori is never going to get better under this present system. They’re not the slightest bit interested in the minority but only care for building on the big corporations. The dopiest thing about this whole sordid affair is the system and those rich corporations feed off us. When we stop voting for incompetence we might stop being slaves to the system. Thank you again Hone, you’re the only one whose got Balls.

  7. Maori Health providers, Maori Education providers, it seems like anything Maori is always under increased scrutiny and then as per usual..underfunded or under something so to speak. Moreover the need to justify Maori spending far outweighs that of the Pakeha…As pathetic as it sounds.. is Aotearoa becoming the country of the Truly WRONG WHITE CROWD?…Balance…where is the balance? Justice is seemingly blind when it suits! Nothing new…so the solution to such blatant racism is what? One law for all..is a fallacy..!

  8. What is new? This just makes me ill…kia ora Hone, that’s what I like about you, you say it how it is….and as if we’re damn stupid…RACISM is thriving in this country and it’s time we did something about it…we will always be second class citizens…and we have those damn Maori in Parliament that won’t do a damn thing about it….Mana up Hone!

  9. Hone is absolutely RIGHT. Maori Health Providers delivering mainstream solutions and programs work under constant scrutiny and pressure, and our genuine Maori medicine and healers are in even worse shape. Time for all the mainstream tin gods to shape up too – ‘infallible’ and unaccountable.

  10. absolutely tautoko Hone Harawira and Mana in their questioning over this take. I only wish there had been more Mana reps in parliament as Hone has a long hard road to walk.
