He aitua!

Rob Shaw will be terribly missed by the Taneatua community and by the wider Eastern Bay of Plenty, said Mr Flavell. Rob was the Principal of Taneatua Primary School for the past sixteen years and also involved with Whakatane Tai Mitchell Rugby for an incredible 51 years.

Over the course of his unwavering devotion to Tai Mitchell Rugby Rob mentored many young and up and coming rugby players. Just this year Rob was awarded the Kiwi Bank Local Hero Award for his tireless dedication to his community and Whakatane Tai Mitchell rugby.

When we think of Rob we remember his selfless dedication to his community, and also the terrible tragedies that he and his family have had to endure, states Mr Flavell.

In 2004 Rob lost his son and best mate in a surfing accident at Omaio Beach and tragically in 2011 Rob lost his whangai son Hugh Biddle in a landslide that engulfed their home.

Rob was a true stalwart of his community, his dedication even under extreme times of sadness never stopped, he will indeed be missed, said Mr Flavell.
