Bid for better telecommunications in Ruatoki Valley

1 min read

(1XX) Vodafone’s applied to build a cell-phone tower at Ruatoki.

As part of Government’s Rural Broadband Initiative, the structure – 30 metres high with a two metre lightning rod – would provide telecommunications and internet services to the area around the settlement.

It would be located on farmland near the intersection of Ohutu and Ngahina Roads, about 750 metres from Ohutu Marae and 1.5 km from the Ruatoki township on the other side of the river.

It’d be one of 154 new fibre-connected towers around the country, to fulfil the Government’s targets of having 83% of rural areas hooked up along 4,500 km of the country’s roads.

Whakatane District Council’s taking submissions on the proposal for the next month.
