[Nita Blake-Person, Newstalk ZB] A lack of knowledge within Government departments about Maori customs has prompted a new course to be launched in the capital.
Victoria University is launching the course, which will teach students Maori greetings and customs, as well as information about the Treaty of Waitangi and its role in the workplace.
The university’s Head of Maori Studies, Peter Adds, says people are often very intimidated by Maori cultural practices and events.
He says people get anxious when they’re heading into a job interview that may address the Treaty of Waitangi and the course aims to address some of those issues.
