This 1930’s photo for sale on EBay in Australia.
Recognise any names anyone?

hi ok here are all of there names. called Waiata Maori Choir they toured England in 1935 during war time: T.U. Tuteao (Waikato), T. Maruera (Wanganui), Tutu Keepa (Ngaruawahia), E. Tuau (East Coast), H Tutawhiao (Southland), R. Matae (Taranaki), A. Tangaere (Rangiukaia), H. Wikiriwhi (Rotorua), M. Waikare (Tikitiki), W. Tahiuri (Wellington), T.P. Tikao (Rapaki), Sister Oma (Canterbury), T. Talaingi (Otago), R. Hoerua (Thames), Hinemoa (Port Levy), M. Kaitaia (Northland), Ninerangi (King Country), Airini (Chatham Islands), Sister Marie (Auckland), Sister Marama (North Auckland)

  1. Kia ora. This choir was formed in 1924 and disbanded in 1938. They had a very long tour of Australia in 1935, and were in Australia again in 1937 before going to England after that via several ports of call on the way. Michelle Willyams wrote an interesting masters thesis at Otago University about them in 2012 called ‘Singing Faith: A History of the Waiata Maori Choir, 1924-1938’, which can be downloaded at http://otago.ourarchive.ac.nz/handle/10523/2405 (but be warned, it’s a big file (70MB)).
