Information about 2014 TeachNZ scholarships is now available. The categories, types, and number of scholarships vary from year to year. The table here outlines the scholarship categories and types that will be available for 2014.
Every year TeachNZ reviews data on teaching vacancies and the make-up of the teaching workforce so we can target scholarships to the areas where they are needed. Ministry of Education data shows that the number of teachers retiring or leaving the profession remains low. As a result, competition for teaching vacancies is higher than it has been for some time.
In 2013 TeachNZ removed most scholarships for secondary subject teachers due to the low number of vacancies in areas other than te reo Maori. For 2014 we have reduced the number of early childhood education scholarships as supply and demand for teachers in this area is more balanced than it has been in recent years.
