A distinctively Maori approach to business & operations management will be showcased at a high-powered international conference in New York on Monday.

Te Wananga o Raukawa Pou Whakahaere, Oriwia Raureti will attend the 20th Annual International Deming Research Seminar to present her paper NZ Maori Values Underpinning Operations Management.

Ms Raureti will take the stage alongside some of the worlds most acclaimed management experts attending at the invitation of the Deming Institute.

Founded in 1993 in Washington DC by renowned 20th-century American author, scientist and international management guru Dr. W.Edwards Deming, the institute aims to foster an understanding of the Deming System Of Profound Knowledge (SoPK) to advance commerce, prosperity and peace.

Ms Rauretis paper attempts to validate Maori views on operations management by comparing them in detail to the values and practices purported by Deming. Te Wananga o Raukawa unique operations model, that is founded in ten Maori values or guiding kaupapa, will be the focus of her comparison.

While excited to be travelling to the big aporo, Ms Raureti is more excited about exposing Te Wananga o Raukawa innovative and uniquely Maori operations model to some of worlds finest management minds.

I want to show that Te Wananga o Raukawa belief in a truly Maori approach to operations can be confirmed & validated by the philosophies of a universally accepted authority such as Dr. W.Edwards Deming.

Its a fantastic chance to showcase the inherent uniqueness of Te Wananga o Raukawa on the international stage but the biggest opportunity is to expose the conference to kaupapa & tikanga Maori with a proven model of how these values can be applied to enhance all facets of operations management

Ms Raureti will also visit the Andre Agassi Preparatory College Academy, a charter school founded by Andre Agassi and located in the heart of one of Las Vegas most at risk neighbourhoods, Fordham University and the Deming Institute in Los Angeles.
