Newly announced MANA candidate for Waiariki, Annette Sykes has been invited as a motivational speaker this Thursday May 15, which will see 14 female fighters from Kawerau, Opotiki, Whakatane and Rotorua go toe-to-toe in an all-female Mana Wahine fight night in Kawerau.

10342480_10203586294355071_3416997228881956571_nKawerau Boxing Gym trainer Warwick Godfery is looking forward to this fight night in particular because there were currently no men training at the boxing club.

He said the Mana Wahine fight night was all about promoting not only physical toughness but mental toughness, self-confidence and discipline in these girls. The youngest fighter is 18 and the oldest is under 30. Godfery is delighted that Annette Sykes will attend and says “Sykes is an example of success for these young women having being educated in Kawerau herself”

All the wahine participating are truly inspirational already and I look forward to supporting my hometown Kawerau promote initiatives that seek to inspire and motivate rangatahi in any way I can says Sykes.
