MAORI ART MARKet showcases the best contemporary Maori art under the same roof for three days. Members of the public can view the best that Aotearoa has to offer, as well as having the opportunity to purchase works for themselves.
In addition to the art works for sale, there is an extensive public programme that features fashion, cooking, music and other things to keep the audience entertained.
It all started as part of the `Eternal Thread’ exhibition in San Francisco under the name of `Maori Art Meets America’. That exhibition has since become history with the sailing of a Maori war canoe under the Golden Gate Bridge and the dawn ceremony launch of Maori art at the Yerba Buena Arts Centre in San Francisco. Americans asked where they could purchase the art in New Zealand and that gave rise to MAORI MARKet at the ASB Arena in Wellington City in 2007
