Maori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi says he escorted the 16 out around midday.
Waititi says he welcomes the prisoners for standing up for their rights and also making the right decision to surrender.
He’s also acknowledged Corrections allowing his involvement for for managing a peaceful outcome.
Earlier today, Corrections said more fires had been lit overnight, with the prisoners throwing debris, and making threats, towards Corrections staff and Police.
Corrections also expressed concern over a potential collapse of the “top jail” unit where the riots happened.
