Tribute to Jade Foster, Waiariki Journalism student

Kia ora whanau

Last year, Chanz Mikaere and I were fortunate enough to be be invited to speak on local issues with the Waiariki Journalism course.  Amongst the group of inquisitive journos, we met Jade Foster – a skateboarding brother from Wellington who wanted to learn more about journalism, and in particular Maori journalism, and had come all the way to Rotorua to study and increase his knowledge around his love for the camera as a medium.  It was with great sadness to hear from Craig Tiriana that Jade took his own life recently and we want to mihi to Jade’s whanau, friends, classmates and tutor.

Jade came to the protest organised by The Peoples Centre outside Todd McClays office in the middle of the year and talked about how his garage band was literally that – a band that practiced out in one of the East Side Business Park garages.

It was choice to have met you brother. Kei te mihi aroha, kei te mihi awhina.
