It seems that not only our time is valuable. As more whanau look to hold reunions and unveilings, more hapu turn their attention to upgrading marae facilities, the role of fundraising can only but increase.
For our whanau, being able to supplement and bring together necessary funds to pay for travel, accommodation, koha all comes from small housies, raffles, lotto draws. Without these events, we would be forced to dip into our own bill money or worse, be at the mercy of application forms and funding agencies. Though their putea is appreciated, what is made available is tiny compared to what is being requested.
At the same, the philosophical debate has started with regards to whether gambling money should be used to support whanau kaupapa. We understand that korero but if we aren’t able to pool our resources and incentivise the giving (rather than gifting thru charity), what more can we do?
Anyway, an interesting korero for the morning ne ra.
