Call for appointments – Learning Media and Crown Research institutes

This message seeks your nomination of candidates who would add value as directors to Learning Media, and to Crown Research Institutes.

Hon Hekia Parata, Minister of Education, Is seeking nominations of candidates who would add value as directors for the Learning Media Board.

In addition to basic skills in governance, management, and financial matters; this company requires a board with commercial acumen and specific experience in finance, the education sector, international business, working the Crown environment and digital technologies. In particular senior commercial acumen, business experience and an understanding of law, especially commercial and international would be advantageous.

Hon Steven Joyce, Minister of Science and Innovations, Is seeking nominations of candidates who would add value as directors on the boards of a number of Crown Research Institutes.

· AgResearch: The Board would benefit from any new member bringing in experience and expertise in areas such as science and technology, resource management, intellectual property management, strong linkages and networks in the agri-sector, international biotechnology alliance, international trade, corporate finance, health research and sheep industry governance. In addition, skills or experience in the strategic management of projects, risks, human resources, or communications would also be advantageous. .

· Institute of Environmental Science and Research Ltd: In addition to basic skills in governance, management, company law and financial matters; board requires directors with a sound understanding of applied science, research and development and its commercialisation; technology transfer and the application and development of scientific information management systems for third parties.

· Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Ltd: The Board would benefit from any new member bringing in broad-based commercial background with finance or legal skills to senior executive and governance levels. Ideally this will be aligned with an understanding of the principles of research funding, services and product marketing and commercialisation of technology products, both domestically and on the global market. In particular, skills and experience in finance, law or human resource management or Maori business knowledge would also be advantageous.

· National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Ltd In addition to basic skills in governance, management, company law and financial matters; this company requires a board with specific scientific background and understanding of the management of fundamental and applied science, research and development and its commercialisation; intellectual property management, and differing cultural perspectives on research and development activities.

· The NZ Institute for Plan and Food Research Ltd: In addition to basic skills in governance, management, and financial matters; this company requires a board with specific knowledge in the following areas: science and innovation, research and development, commercialisation of new products, intellectual property ; understanding of domestic and international life science developments, international marketing and an appreciation of differing cultural perspectives in research and development activities. Knowledge of this company’s areas of science, as well as strong experience as a commercial director would be particularly advantageous.

· The NZ Forest Research Institute Ltd (trading as Scion) : In addition to basic skills in governance, management, company law and financial matters; this company requires a board with specific knowledge in the following areas: research and development, commercialisation of new products, intellectual property management, timber processing and manufacturing, doing business in Australia and with multi-national companies and differing cultural perspectives on research and development activities. .
