FirstNationsThe Truth and Reconcliation Comission which is headed by former Special Assistant to the Attorney General of Manitoba Mr Justice Murray Sinclair who was called to the bar in Manitoba in 1980 in which he practiced civil, criminal and Aboriginal law.

Judge Murray Sinclair was was appointed Associate Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba in March of 1988 and to the Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba in January 2001. He is Manitoba’s first Aboriginal Judge to sit on a bench. A position he holds today.

Today a Federal Court in Ontarioh has ordered the Federal Goverrment of Canada t turn over all documents to the Truth and Reconcilation Commision.

This is a landmark decision that Justice Stephen Goudge said the obligation for the Goverment to provide the materials is clear from the settlement agreement that established the commission.

The government maintained it had no obligation to provide the records in Library and Archives Canada.

The commission, under Justice Murray Sinclair, argued Ottawa’s intransigence would make it impossible to complete its work on budget as required by July 1, 2014.

I am very happy for the victims of Residential Schools, another inroad to healing and recovery.
