A Tuhoe owned and operated trekking company, Te Urewera Treks, has been nominated for an international indigenous tourism & biodiversity website award to be presented in Germany later this year. (For more details about the award, visit http://planeta.wikispaces.com/itbw).

The company run by Joe and Joanna Doherty, is operated by a team of local guides who bring a unique dimension to the treks. The business is operated using Maori concepts of kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga. The process is a two stage one that includes a general community/public vote (which opened on Monday), followed by a panel of international judges assessing and ranking each of the sites.

If you’d like to support him in this initiative, please visit: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/T6LGNYJ and cast your vote.

Each of the nominee sites can be accessed from the above site address including ours or go directly to: www.teureweratreks.co.nz to view.

(Kia ora to the Tuhoe-Waikaremoana Maori Trust Board for this panui)

One Response to Tuhoe Business up for International Award

  1. Regarding this award, tourism companies NOMINATE themselves – anyone can do this as long as they are Indigenous owned.
