Tips on how to make this season’s fashionable makeup wearable for everyday life

I was lucky enough to head my makeup team for two shows at Sydney Fashion Week recently and saw lots of up and coming trends for 2010. The runway is one of the first places we see trends emerging especially with makeup styles and cosmetic products. Yet often a lot of what we see is so adventurous and out of the norm for general day to day wear, but by ignoring trends all together we miss out on what can be ultra glamorous and flattering makeup advice.

The biggest trend I found was a focus on making skin look beautiful.  Follow these tips to create a flawless canvas of skin for your makeup this year.

  1. For starters foundation needs to be your exact same skin colour. If you can see the product on your face then it is the wrong shade. Foundation should fade right into your skin and be unnoticeable.
  2. Work with the right tools, avoid your fingers for fear of streak marks and unblended makeup. Opt for a buffer brush or foundation brush (available at most makeup stores). These tools are specifically designed for foundation application and will do all the work for you and get your skin looking perfected in no time.
  3. Try using liquid foundations for a natural finish – these can often be sheered out with moisturiser or water. Find a liquid foundation that has a glossy texture which will give sheen to your skin, resulting in a healthy appearance.
  4. Apply a crème concealer over the top of your foundation, this will ensure you use less makeup. Concealer needs only to be applied around your eyes and over any spots or imperfections on your skin. Use your finger to blend in the product pressing it gently onto your face.
  5. For the ultimate dewy look, finish with a highlighting powder, this is a lighter shade than your skin tone and use one which has a light shimmer in it. Alternatively try using a small amount of clear lip gloss. Place the powder or gloss on your temples, lightly on your forehead and chin.

Think glowing healthy and flawless skin all year around. Foundation and concealer can be your best friend if used correctly. Don’t shy away from facial makeup; if you get your skin looking great, hardly any more makeup is necessary.

I drop a comment when I like a post on a website or if I have something to contribute to the discussion. Usually it is caused by the passion communicated in the article I browsed. And after this post Phoenix Renata | Skin is In!! - TangataWhenua.com. I was moved enough to post a commenta response ;) I do have a couple of questions for you if it's allright. Is it simply me or do some of the responses appear as if they are written by brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are writing on other sites, I would like to keep up with anything new you have to post. Would you list the complete urls of your shared sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

Kia Ora Phoenix, how are you and your whanau. I'm asking if you could show my sisters and I how to apply makeup as we are all different. As you know we are venturing into a skincare range which we have learnt alot about but we are not shure on makeup. I thought it would be nice to learn from you. What do you think? Where & How much would it cost? We do like the more natural look but definitly need touch ups. I love what your doing. Ka pai tena. Aunty Karen & Uncle Chub says hi babe.

Kia ora Hine Ramari, Absolutely, for starters - stay away from BLACK eyeliner & mascara, it is way to cool/cold and is not flattering, instead opt for dark chocolate browns or dark plums, much warmer and flattering on brown skin. That said, it is important to note that darker skin is just like lighter skin in that it is unique to the individual. There are many different variations of colour tones in darker skin, so it is a mistake to generalise all dark skin into one group - something that suits one darker skined person may not suit another, so bare in mind when choosing makeup that you need to take into account your unique colouring, hair colour and eye colour. In regards to foundation - if you can see it on your skin then its the wrong shade. Thanks for the comment. Phoenix Renata.

Kia ora Phoenix, love your stuff! Hey I was wondering if you had any tips for wahine of darker skin colours? Anything WE should know? Over the years it was so much harder to get good stuff in but over the last 5 years it's been getting better, just wondering!?!
