Hei Rere Mai Scholarships

The BMD has 4 options as majors including Business, Resource Management, Language and Culture and Communications. The purpose of the qualification is to prepare graduates for leadership and management roles that support Maori and iwi development into the future.

Students will need to have NCEA at level three if they are school leavers or be 20 years of age or older.

The scholarships will reimburse students for their first year of study upon successful completion of their first year.

The closing date for applicants is the 27th of January 2012.

Youth Fund for young people to apply for small grants of between $2,000 – $7,000 for Youth Development projects for and by young people aged 12-24 years.

Its called the ‘Youth Fund’ because we want applications to come from young people and we have a panel of young people who will assess all submitted applications and make the decision on which projects should and should not be funded, it really is a ‘Youth Fund’.

If you are a young person, a group of young people or an organisation that works in partnership with young people and you have a great idea that young people will benefit from than have a look at the attached information sheet and application form – no harm in just looking.

The closing date for completed applications is 27 January 2012, and successful applicants will be notified by 21 February 2012.

The aim of the Ta Tatou Mahere Korowai Award is to assist in the establishment of Rangatahi Advisory Groups for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Addiction and Whanau Ora services, via the implementation of Ta Tatou Mahere Korowai (Guidelines to Setting Up Rangatahi Advisory Groups for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Addiction, and Whanau Ora Services).

The Ta Tatou Mahere Korowai provides a model for Mental Health, Addiction and Wh?nau Ora Services to infuse the views and aspirations of rangatahi and by doing so, ensure services are meeting their needs.

Hoe Rua Work Based Placements
The Hoe Rua Programme is now open to take registrations of interest from addiction treatment providers (residential programmes and community-based or day programmes) and methamphetamine sites. The aim of Hoe Rua is to grow the number of people currently working in addiction services by providing a new recruit with paid work-based placement with a supportive host organisation.

The Hoe Wha programme also aims to develop the problem gambling and gambling sector to enhance research capacity by providing scholarships in the area of problem gambling study and research. There will be a post doctoral fellowship available that supports post doctoral research in addition to the above programmes.

The programme will:

Ma Te Reo is a community based  funding programme established by government in 2001 to support projects, programmes and activites that contribute to local level Maori language regeneration.

The fund is administered on behalf of government by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori, who distributes $1.8 million annually in the form of conditional grants to iwi, hapu, whanau, Maori organisations and individuals.

The 2011 funding round opens on Monday 29 August 2011, and closes Friday 7 October 2011 at 5pm.  Applications to the fund are made online.  While we encourage you to apply on-line, you can also submit an application in hard-copy.

Because this funding pool is aimed at community and whanau based groups, many of the initiatives created as a result of this support contribute directly towards the intergenerational transmission of the language, which is an important aspect of te reo Maori revitalisation. We hope to support many more locally led projects in this year’s funding round“, says Glenis Philip-Barbara, Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori.

“We encourage iwi, hapu and other community providers to collaborate and work together in the development of their applications.  This will ensure strategic and targeted distribution of funding across regions“.

25-year-old Natalie Ramarihia Coates has been awarded a Fulbright Award to study for a year at Harvard.

The award is sponsored by Nga Pae o Te Maramatanga, the centre for Maori research excellence.

Ms Coates says she ended up with a choice of four prestigious United States universities, so she went for the best.

The masters’ degree will involve taking a range of courses, with a strong focus on Native American issues, she currently works for Te Aurere Law in Rotorua.

She will catch up with last year’s award winner, Dan Bidois, who is in the middle of a two year Harvard master’s degree in public policy.
