Ruatoki School community bands together to after devastating fire

Ruatoki SchoolStaff and management at Te Wharekura o Ruatoki have a busy two weeks ahead after a major fire at the school.

Four classrooms and the the school hall have been completely destroyed, along with a substantial amount of equipment, teaching resources and students’ work.

The two-week holiday period will now be spent preparing for the return of students in Term Four.

Board of Trustees member Patrick McGarvey says the community’s rallying around the school with offers of help.

He says local marae buildings have already been offered as temporary teaching space.

Mr McGarvey says the board is meeting with staff over the next two days to discuss the weeks ahead.
