Maori Land Trust seeking Expression of Interest for Land Development

1 min read

The Wharekauri 1G10A4B Trust is seeking expressions of interest from (EOI) parties interested in utilising their whenua on the northern side of Matarakau Point on the Chatham Islands. The land block has 16.7ha (41.27 acres) on the seaward side of Matarakaus northern shore. Access to the property is by paper road and a formed shared access through several Maori land properties.

WharekauriCCurrently the land is untenanted and the Trust would like to invite expressions of interest from people or groups interested in helping them achieve their goals and objectives.

Three of the key goals of the trust are to:

  1. Establish the internal boundary fence between Wharekauri 1G10A4B and 1G10A4A properties.
  2. Create a sustainable income stream
  3. Re-establish traditional Mahinga Kai (food gathering) resources on our whenua (land), including but not limited to Titi (muttonbirds).

Ideally any expressions of interest received will meet at least two of these goals. We are open to any sort of enterprise from any person. As a trust we are bound to act in the best interests of all our owners whose names can be found on the internet.

Please view the following panui and application form for more details.

Additional Information

  • A pencil deadline for expressions of interest is 31 March 2010.
  • Please pass this panui on to others who may be interested.
