Ko Ngati Awa Te Toki concert set to get Hazuduz

2 min read

Well known Aotearoa hip hop exponent Hazaduz will round out the entertainment headliners for this Saturdays Ko Ngati Awa Te Toki 2010 2050 concert at Wairaka Marae, Whakatane.

Originally from Whakatane, Hazaduz (aka Hoani Ranapia) affiliates to Ngai Taiwhakaea. Most commonly known for his involvement with NZ hip hop legend Che-Fu, Ranapia also fronts the stage for rising Auckland based rhythm ensemble Batucada Sound Machine.

However, Ranapia will be keeping it local in Whakatane with fellow Eastern Bay locals Tribal Conexionz confirmed as his backing musical section. The four piece group originally from Opotiki will surely delight the crowd with their smooth reggae beats. Hazuduz and Tribal Conexionz will be the first of the bands and will take the stage at around 3.20pm.

The announcement of Hazuduz completes a formidable line up of entertainment that includes Maisey Rika and Sydney based hip-hoppers TheKumpnee. Popular local band A New Era is also on the bill. Those who missed the Mataatua Kapa Haka Regionals held at Torere on February 20 will be pleased to know that Ngati Awa Kapa Haka, Manukatutahi and Ngati Awa ki Rangitaiki, will take the stage on Saturday too.

The climax of the day will be the public screening of the Ko Ngati Awa Te Toki DVD which portrays the story of Ngati Awa; the past, the present and the future. The screening will immediately precede Maisey Rika who will close out the performances.

A fun day for the whole family is promised with a bouncy castle, face painting and lolly scrambles that are sure to keep the kids entertained. A section close to the stage will be set aside as a Whanau Zone where there will be plenty of room for families to lay out a blanket and enjoy the show. Food, including hangi, seafood chowder with fried bread and a sausage sizzle, will also be available.
