Innovation on the delivery of Te Reo Maori is a key strategy for the Iwi Station of the Year Ngati Hine FM says General Manager Mike Kake.

The Whangarei based iwi radio station was announced as the inaugural winner at the 2010 New Zealand Radio Awards held in Auckland last night.

Our point of difference is making Te Reo accessible to all levels of understanding says Mr Kake.

The award comes as Ngati Hine FM prepares to shift from its 99.5 in Whangarei and 96.4 North of Hikurangi frequencies. The station has been broadcasting on the two frequencies for twenty years.

The change is required by The Ministry of Economic Development as part of an effort to improve the management of New Zealand’s radio broadcasting spectrum. From May 20, Ngati Hine FM can be found on 99.6 in Whangarei and 99.1 North of Hikurangi. Ngati Hine FM is one of twenty-one iwi radio stations across New Zealand.NgatiHineFMF
