Background information

The AMP Scholarship Programme aims to support talented Kiwis by encouraging and assisting them to achieve their goals and do their thing.

  • This year AMP will award up to $200,000 in national scholarships to inspirational New Zealanders around the country.
  • In addition to the national scholarships, selected AMP Adviser businesses are offering more than $55,000 in Regional Scholarships in their local regions.
  • Anyone can apply for an AMP Scholarship – there are no criteria! Applicants can be of any age or ethnicity and from any background or discipline.
  • Scholarships are only awarded to individuals and applicants must be either New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
  • Fields of achievement are categorised under the following disciplines: the arts, humanitarian, environmental, medical, science, business/entrepreneurial and academia.
  • The AMP Scholarship Programme was established in 1998 and since that time AMP has awarded more than $1 million to 100 ordinary New Zealanders doing their thing.
  • Previous winners range from artists, doctors and scientists, to performers, shoe designers and shearers, sports people, entrepreneurs, teachers, and just about everything in between. For more information about our winners visit

Factors the judges look for include a demonstrated:

  • Can do and go for it attitude;
  • willingness to push personal limits;
  • willingness to push barriers in order to succeed;
  • courage, passion, determination and commitment to do their thing;
  • Kiwi ingenuity; and
  • Kiwis doing great things.

AMP Sponsorship, Public Affairs and Marketing teams offer support and advice on matters relating to sponsorship, public relationships, media and public speaking to all AMP Scholarship winners.
