Maori Diploma Scholarship winners announced

InfraTrain,which launched a programme specfiically targettingthe upskill of Maori recently announced the winners of the latest round of Maori Diploma Scholarships:

  • Tana Apiata of Quality Roading and Services (Wairoa) Ltd
  • Morgan Chapman of Downer EDI Works, Tauranga
  • Brendon Dacey of North Shore City Council
  • Benjiman Kete of CKL Surveying and Planning, Te Awamutu
  • Jeremy Wikeepa of Downer EDI Works, Hamilton

The employers of each of the winners will each receive $10,000 to support them in their studies towards an InfraTrain National Diploma.

The Diploma Scholarship is offered by InfraTrain as part of the Maori in Infrastructure Trades Training programme. One of the aims of the initiative is to support Maori who presently work in the industry to gain higher level qualifications, including National Diplomas.

A first round of Diploma Scholarships was offered by InfraTrain at the end of 2009. The winners were:

  • Karlton Karangaroa of Wairoa District Council
  • Mahaki Naden-Riddell of Downer EDI Works, Auckland
  • Amanda Taylor of Downer EDI Works, Auckland

InfraTrain Chief Executive, John Wills, says, InfraTrain received a number of excellent applications for both rounds of Scholarships. We are encouraged by the effort being made by so many applicants, as well as the commitment of employers to upskilling their employees.
