Matariki Festival: Tapu Te Ranga Marae, 18-19 June

Tapu Te Ranga Marae will be holding a Matariki Community Festival starting on 18 June (Fri) beginning at 4.30 and going until 19 June (Sat)

Friday Programme

  • 4.30 pm Marae and forest tours, kids activities, BYO snacks, free tea + coffee
  • 5.30pm Welcome and Ahi Matariki explained by Kaumatua Bruce Stewart
  • 6.00pm Ahi Matariki ceremonial fire, pledges and fire display (BYO wood)
  • 6.30pm Kapa haka, taiaha display and waiata
  • 7.30pm Music from Newtown Rocksteady, Roy G + the Bivinators.

Please let us know by RSVP if you would like to take part in the Open Mike session we would love for you to share your unique talents on the night!

Halimas delicious curry served from 6.00pm ($5)
Free tea, coffee and warm fruit punch

You may also like to take up the offer to stay overnight at the marae (koha only) to get the full experience and have the opportunity to take part in the dawn ceremony and Matariki viewing. It really is an experience worth having to wake up in such as special building surrounded by bush in the heart of our community!

This is an ALCOHOL FREE EVENT – family friendly, all welcome

Saturday Programme

  • 5.30am Wake up call (optional)
  • 6.00am Dawn ceremony and Matariki viewing (weather permitting)
  • 6.45am Breakfast ($5 or BYO)
  • 8.30am Bush walk and forest care working bee (optional)
