Waka the journeying and coming together of people

This is our theme for this year. For thousands of years, guided by the stars, waka (canoe) transported people all over the Pacific Ocean and New Zealand. Come to Te Papa and let us take you on a journey of discovery.

Nga Taonga Ahungarua a Matariki

From the 10-27 June, seven taonga will be exhibited on Te Marae that show the continuance and maintenance of Maori knowledge relating to traditional Maori food. More information is coming.

About Matariki

In early June, the star cluster Matariki (the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters) will reappear in our dawn skies, being visible for 11 months.
