2 min read

An exciting initiative aimed at developing and supporting young Te Arawa leaders, between the age of 16 and 24 years old, will be offered to Nga Uri o Te Arawa in June 2010. This initiative builds upon the previous Te Arawa Rangatakapu Emerging leaders programme held in 2008.

The purpose of this forum is to bring young Te Arawa leaders together to consider their leadership futures and network with other emerging and existing Te Arawa leaders. This initiative aims to:

  1. Empower rangatahi to actively contribute to Te Arawa and Rotoruas future development;
  2. Establish a network of peers and other leaders to support them in their leadership development; and
  3. Equip rangatahi with planning tools for future leadership development.

Suitable young leaders for this forum will share a passion and commitment to Te Arawa and will be keen to develop their leadership within the context of Te Arawa. They will have begun to demonstrate leadership in a range of situations. This Leadership Forum is made possible by the Ministry of Youth Development. Up to 15 scholarships will be offered to Nga Uri o Te Arawa and during the month of June they will participate in:

  • a one-day wananga introduction to leadership in Te Arawa
  • a two-day leadership wananga on leadership in Te Arawa
  • four mentoring sessions through a tuakana/teina mentoring relationship
  • follow-up to review progress, implement leadership and succession development plan

For access to an application form, in word or pdf format, and background information on the programme contact Taria Tahana. Applications close on Friday 28 May 2010 at 4pm and can either be delivered, posted or emailed as per the detail on the application form.
