Kai me Kooneke: Poneke celebrates with a Roller Disco, 30 Hoongongoi (July)

The Wellington City Council is putting on a fun night for the whole whaanau Kai me Kooneke (roller disco) on Raamere 30 Hoongongoi (Friday 30 July) as part of Te Wiki o te reo Maaori (Maaori Language Week).

The evening will involve Maaori-style Zumba with Ani and her Z team, music by DJ Ayesha and Juse 1.

Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Ngaa Mokopuna the only immersion Maaori school in Wellington City will be selling healthy kai throughout the evening.

Its koha donation, and if people have their own skates, theyre asked to bring them along theres only a limited amount available for hire at the centre. Scooters and trikes are allowed, but no bikes. Children must be supervised.

Theres already a bit of media interest in this ex-Warriors/Melbourne Storm League player Wairangi Koopu will be there to cover the disco for Maaori Televisions Hyundai Code.

The roller discos that are held at are usually immensely popular. It starts at 6.30pm and finishes up at around 9.30pm. The recreation centre is at 101 Kilbirnie Crescent. are loving how communities, whanau and individuals are celebrating Te Wiki o te reo Maori around Aotearoa, keep sending in your stories!
