Te Runanga o Ngati Awa Internship: Summer 2010/11

2 min read

Tena koutou,

Te Runanga o Ngati Awa is seeking to employ two Ngati Awa Interns for around 10 weeks over the summer of 2010/2011.

In 2005 legislation was passed settling Ngati Awa’s long standing Treaty of Waitangi claims and establishing a new governance body. The Runanga is the body that looks after the collective affairs of the members of Ngati Awa.

Our aim is to involve the Intern in our day to day operations, and build the students skills in iwi development as well as providing useful help for our work.

Ultimately we hope it will encourage the student to consider a career in iwi/Maori development as well as build relationships between the student, Te Runanga o Ngati Awa and Ngati Awa whanui.

The student could be at any level from undergraduate through to PhD level. The key characteristics we are seeking are intelligence, motivation, and an interest in the development of Ngati Awa. We are looking for someone with good personal skills who will work well in a small team. We will adapt the demands of the job to the level of student.

The internship involves a forty-hour week and the pay rate is $15.00 per hour.

The intern will work from Te Runanga o Ngati Awa in Whakatane.
