  • We need more community/agency synergies, and
  • Someone to maintain our vision of wellness, above what the health dollars will allow

I am one of few local public health experts

Served as a Health Department inspector, Regional Health Emergency Planner, WebHealth Coordinator, Lakes DHB Advisor (CPHAC), Public Health Association executive, Regional Health Protection Specialist, Government working groups on Inequalities, Health Protection, Emergency Management, Community Participation, Environmental Risk, Food Standards, Workforce Development and Education.

As a consultant I run health services, provide workforce training and strategic/emergency planning.

But I have a multi-skill base

Background in journalism, education, business, policy and ICT.

Nationally published ran Waiariki journalism course, Regional Education Advisor for Skill NZ (Tertiatry Education Commission), ran local PTE training programmes, a TPK policy analyst, company/trust director, set-up Lakes Webhealth (local community health & social services online) and dozens of other web-based tools. MPhil (Environmental Health), Grad. Dip. Env. Hlth, BSc (Ecology), Dip. Managment, Cert. Journalism, Cert. Adult Teaching.

And a heart for our community

I do/have done – Community rep for Lakes DHB (CPHAC), 12-18yrs youth programme, regular visits to the elderly/sick/afflicted, service projects for those in need (food, firewood, gardens, housing), live music for community events (free), linked local health and social services (WebHealth), Family Home Evenings to strengthen
families…whatever it takes to help people & make a difference.

At 43, I have four children (5 to 18yrs) with my wife Jacque (nee Ormsby, from Te Arawa – Ngati Pikiao/Rangiteaorere) who is a registered nurse. I am a health consultant,
researcher/writer and company director speclialising in health, communications, organisational/community development.

Got No Postal Voting Forms?

If youre on the Electoral Roll, you can cast a special vote at Rotorua District Council (Electoral Officer ph. 3500-160). If not on the Roll, you can get on at the Electoral Enrolment centre, 1200 Amohia Street or phone 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 367656). Votes must be in by 12noon 9 October.
