A major Auckland womens health service WONS is going online once again to raise money. TradeMe ( is hosting a one week auction in support of WONS Nursing, Education and Health Promotion Service – beginning 5th November 2010.

WONS is a charitable trust committed to working with and assisting the community, other service provider to keep our women and their families well. WONS is partially funded by contracts with the Ministry of Health and the Auckland District Health Boards, but because of the increasing demands and needs of the community it serves, the service WONS performs is above and beyond these contractual arrangements, the funding is not enough to meet the demands of the community.

Each year WONS performs cervical smears tests for more than 3,000 high need women from low incomes. WONS educates about 10,000 women on a range of health issues, deliver the sisters in health training sessions to help local women become health advocates and conducts womens health pamper days in low income communities.

WONS promotes cervical and breast screening awareness by building capacity of Maori, Pacific and Asian communities to support their own communities.

Funds raised from this auction will go towards lining the mobile van and providing a power source to ensure comfort and safety for women and staff on the van.

CEO Ms Davy says ‘ WONS active role in helping to prevent cancer in the community is one of the reasons the auction has been embraced by our generous business supporters.
