9.00am – 5.30pm

Calls for expressions of interest in participation

National Services Te Paerangi in partnership with Te Reo o Taranakiinvite you to join us at this iwi taonga/digital database hui.

This hui will be of interest to those who are involved in iwi taonga/ digital database development with a view to sharing information and raising discussion around key issues, challenges and benefits of technology and collaborative initiatives to support iwi to reconnect with their taonga, and cultural heritage.

NSTP has supported iwi in their taonga/ digital database development and research over the years. In recent interviews, iwi indicated that a forum for sharing information and an ongoing network of people would be valuable alongside development of resouces and guidelines to assist iwi embarking on this work in future.

In particular, strategic planning and discussions with a broad range of people with experience and expertise was raised as essential to ensure iwi are well informed and supported and up to date with relevant projects and new developments.

This hui builds on the Iwi Taonga Database Hui held by National Services Te Paerangi in 2006. The hui is also mindful of the valuable discussion raised at the Digital Subjects, Cultural Objects workshop that was held at Waipapa Marae, University of Auckland in August 2010 around virtual repatriation, ownership and control of ‘digital taonga’ and relationships between custodial owners of and the institutions holding.
